“Stars of WW2” - Adam Gray
Washington DC, 35mm film, 1/30 second, fall afternoon
I regularly strive to shoot images (especially on film) as slow as possible. On this cloudy fall day, I found myself hiking across the National Mall in Washington DC. The WW2 memorial is very much a "participant" memorial, in that one cannot view the entire thing at once. In its vast geographic capacity, the public is encouraged to move about, around and through, appreciating every detail. The stars cover a curved wall nearly 80 feet long. By firmly holding the camera to the stone wall with one hand and choosing a focal length right in the middle, the detail of the stars seems to stretch into the horizon.
